Description
- small device to test the polarity of your single coil or humbucker pickup
- simply hold the tester over one of the pickups' pole pieces and so discover the orentation of the pole pieces: north-up or south-up (if the middle pickup in a Strat-style guitar shows a different direction compared to the neck or bridge pickup, you know the middle pickup has been reverse-wound)
- humbuckers: both coils have a different polarity with one coil reverse-wound to cancel/comprise hum or noise (caused by electromagnetic fields from other sources, such as mains wiring and electrical equipment)
POLARITY IS THE WAY IN WHICH DIRECTION THE MAGNET/POLE PIECES ARE ORIENTED IN THE PICKUPS: NORTH-UP OR SOUTH-UP
